Eric Stein
Eric Stein, Voya Investment Management’s head of investments and CIO of fixed income, will become the firm’s CIO, effective July 1. Stein will oversee the firm’s fixed-income, alternatives equities, income-and-growth and multi-asset strategies and their respective teams.
The promotion comes amid two announced retirements: Chris Lyons, the firm’s head of private fixed income and alternatives, will retire at the end of the year after a 36-year tenure. Vincent Costa, CIO of equities, will retire at the end of September after 19 years at Voya.
Jeff Hobbs, Voya IM’s head of insurance portfolio management, will succeed Stein as CIO of fixed income.
“Over the past few years as the pace of innovation and change in the investment management industry has accelerated, we have made investments in new capabilities, data, technology and the next generation of leaders to align the depth and breadth of our investment expertise with the needs and objectives of our clients,” said Matt Toms, Voya IM’s CEO, in a statement.

Succeeding Costa as CIO of equities is James Lydotes, currently the deputy CIO of equities at Newton Investment Management. He will join Voya in September.
Stein was previously the CIO of fixed income at Morgan Stanley Investment Management and the CIO of fixed income at Eaton Vance.
“Since joining Voya in 2024, Eric has strengthened our investment structure and helped to elevate Voya IM’s positioning in the market,” Toms said in the statement. “His expanded role is a natural progression that reflects the strength of his leadership and vision for the future.”
Stein earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration and finance from Boston University and an MBA in analytic finance and economics from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
