Stock index futures were down on Friday, a day after Wall Street notched up record highs, with rate cut bets firmly in place now. U.S. stocks set another record closing on Thursday, with the Dow Jones reaching the 46,000 level for the first time, after the consumer inflation report came in higher on a monthly basis in August, while core CPI was steady. As the week comes to a close, markets are largely in a buoyant mood, continuing into the morning’s Asian session. Investor attention was squarely focused on the slightly higher than expected CPI release and the notably higher than expected jobless claims data.
Let’s take a look at some important economic data due to be released next week. This includes the Empire State Manufacturing Index on Monday, with reports on Retail Sales, Import Price Index, and Export Price Index to be released on Tuesday. Wednesday will see the release of MBA Mortgage Applications, Housing Starts, and Building Permits, along with the Fed interest rate decision. While Thursday will see the release of Initial Jobless Claims and the Fed’s Balance Sheet, with Baker Hughes Rig Count on Friday.
