Crypto asset manager Bitwise Asset Management has announced that its strategies will now be available on alternative investments platform iCapital—the first crypto assets to become available on the marketplace.
“Crypto is rapidly emerging as a new alternative asset class, with unique drivers that can make it a compelling diversifier in portfolios for investment professionals,” Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley said in a statement. “We’ve seen that trend intensify in 2025 as institutions, family offices and wealth managers have begun to engage more with the space.”
iCapital users will be able to access Bitwise’s active crypto strategies, which seek to capitalize on alpha opportunities in the crypto space. Bitwise’s multi-strategy approach includes nondirectional, tactically directional, long bias and special situations strategies.
Bitwise operates 10 private funds with a variety of crypto strategies. Some include exposure to baskets of different cryptocurrencies, such as Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund, which tracks an index comprised of the 10 most highly valued cryptocurrencies. Others are more focused on Bitcoin, Ethereum and NFTs
Bitwise is also a leading provider of crypto ETFs, having launched about a dozen funds covering Bitcoin, Ethereum and other strategies.
Crypto has been a hot topic given the Trump administration’s embrace of the asset class. The SEC launched a Crypto Task Force led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, charged with “developing a workable regulatory framework for crypto.”
The SEC also dropped an enforcement case against Coinbase, although the state of Oregon then filed a new suit alleging that Coinbase is “engaged in ongoing and widespread violations.”
On the ETF front, over two dozen new crypto ETFs have already been launched this year, almost matching the 2024 full-year total of 41, according to a recent column by CAIA’s Roxanna Islam.
It’s also been a busy stretch for iCapital. Earlier this week, MAI Capital Management, a Cleveland-based RIA with $29.2 billion in AUM, announced it was integrating iCapital’s tech into its custom in-house platform to manage alternative investments.
In addition, a partnership between Goldman Sachs Asset Management, GeoWealth and iCapital to build portfolios of public and private investments in a single account for RIAs, announced last October, brought its first products live.
