OCIO Provider Brown Advisory Expands to Abu Dhabi

Investment manager and outsourced CIO provider Brown Advisory Inc. announced Wednesday the firm will open an office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, expanding its presence in the Middle East. The firm has advised clients in the UAE for more than a decade.

The firm’s new office is located in Abu Dhabi Global Market, a business district where many large investment firms have set up shop.

As part of its regional expansion, the firm has named Jack Weatherby, institutional sales director for Brown Advisory’s international business, as head of Middle East. The firm oversees $161.7 billion in client assets across its investment advisory, OCIO and fund management services.

“The opening of our first office in the Middle East is another example of Brown Advisory demonstrating its dedication to excellence in customer service and supporting our client base,” said Quintin Ings-Chambers, head of international business development at Brown Advisory, in a statement. “Our newly established presence in the ADGM will enable us to better serve clients—both new and existing—from our closer proximity to this strategically important region.”

A number of asset managers, hedge funds and other investors have moved into the region in recent years. Hedge funds Brevan Howard, Marshall Wace and Sculptor Capital have all set up shop in Abu Dhabi, as did Temasek’s Seviora, Nuveen and PGIM.

“The Middle East has been a growing source of investment and enquiries from investors looking to benefit from our long-term approach to investing,” Weatherby said in a statement. “The next natural step is to establish a presence in the region to be closer to our clients while capitalizing on growth opportunities within one of the fastest-growing financial hubs in the world.”
