Dutch asset manager Achmea Investment Management is launching an impact-focused private equity fund to invest across the themes of climate, biodiversity, healthy nutrition and good health, focusing on “healthy people in a healthy society.”
The fund—Achmea IM PE Partnership Fund – Healthy People & Planet 2025—is intended to reach 250 million euros ($290 million), with pension fund clients expressing interest in committing 225 million euros in the initial round of funding.
“The fund’s central impact themes are climate, biodiversity, healthy nutrition and good health,” Achmea IM stated in the announcement. “Companies that make an intentional and measurable positive contribution to these themes and offer attractive risk/return characteristics will be eligible for investment by the fund.”
The fund was developed specifically for Dutch pension funds, a group of investors familiar with impact and responsible investing, as the Dutch Pensions Act and the Code of Dutch Pension funds set standards for the inclusion of sustainability and responsible investment considerations. The closed-end fund will have an expected term of 10 to 12 years, and its strategy will focus on making co-investments in the buyout and growth segments of the private equity market.

Achmea IM selected Neuberger Berman Private Markets, an experienced private equity impact investor, as an investment partner for the fund.
“There is enormous interest in impact investing among our clients and we’re proud to have set up this impact fund with them,” said Maureen Schlejen, chair of the Achmea IM board, in a statement. “Collaboration is key as far as we’re concerned: it accelerates impact and increases scale. This fund offers pension funds and other institutional investors the opportunity to contribute to the goal of healthy people in a healthy society at a return that is in keeping with market rates.”
The fund is still open to other interested institutional investors, according to Achmea IM’s statement. Its first investments are expected to be made in the fourth quarter of the year.
Achmea IM manages more than 260 billion euros in assets, as of August 14. The manager, a subsidiary of Dutch insurer Achmea, states that socially responsible investing is a key part of its DNA.
“We apply five themes when shaping responsible investments: human rights, labor standards, nature and the environment, health and climate change,” the company states on its website. “In addition, we are convinced that social and environmental responsible investments deliver better results over the long term. So we advise and assist pension funds as they develop and implement their own responsible investment policies.”
