Blackstone Appoints BREIT, Core+ Chief to Succeed Slain Executive

Katie Keenan

Alternative investment manager Blackstone appointed Katie Keenan as CEO and director of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, Inc. and the firm’s Core+ real estate business.

Keenan will succeed Wesley LePatner, who was killed in a shooting at Blackstone’s New York City headquarters building in July. BREIT Head of Asset Management Rob Harper had been serving as interim CEO.

Keenan joined the firm in 2012 and previously served as global co-CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Debt Strategies and commercial REIT Blackstone Mortgage Trust.

“Thanks to the dedication of Wesley and many others, BREIT represents some of Blackstone’s finest work,” Keenan said in a statement. “BREIT is incredibly well-positioned and I am looking forward to working with the team to capitalize on the ongoing real estate recovery, with new supply falling sharply, the cost of debt capital coming down, and transaction activity picking up.”
