
Scott Chan
Scott Chan, the CIO of the $374.3 billion California State Teachers’ Retirement System, and Greg Heckman, CEO of agriculture and food company Bunge Global SA, were named on Wednesday to the board of Focusing Capital on the Long Term, a nonprofit that encourages institutional investors to focus on the long term to support a sustainable economy.
Additionally, C.S. Venkatakrishnan, group CEO of Barclays and already a board member, will assume the role of vice chair at the nonprofit. The appointments are effective October 1. FCLTGlobal also announced the appointment of Peter Grauer, chairman emeritus at Bloomberg, as a strategic adviser, joining a group that also includes BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.
“Scott and Greg represent the long-term thinking and leadership that today’s businesses and investors need,” said Sarah Williamson, FCLTGlobal’s CEO, in a statement. “With their appointments, combined with Venkat stepping into a new role as vice chair, we’re positioning FCLTGlobal to drive systemic change in capital markets.”
Chan, who joined CalSTRS in 2018 and became CIO in 2024, is also a board member of the Toigo Foundation, is co-chair and board member of the Institutional Investors Roundtable, and serves on the Milken Institute’s Executive Council for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Asset Management.

“FCLTGlobal’s approach and commitment to creating long-term value directly support our goal of delivering sustainable retirement security for educators,” Chan said in a statement. “I am eager to support the already robust partnership between CalSTRS and FCLTGlobal and help them continue to make real change across capital markets.”
The nonprofit’s board includes Chris Ailman, founder of Ailman Advisers and Chan’s predecessor as CIO of CalSTRS; Raphael Arndt, CEO of Australia’s Future Fund; ; John Graham, president and CEO of Canada’s CPP Investments; Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, CEO and chairman of Singapore state-owned investment fund Temasek; and Ronald Wuijster, CEO of the Netherlands’ APG Asset Management.
In November 2024, Eduard Van Gelderen, the former CIO of Canada’s PSP Investments, was named as senior managing director and head of research at FCLTGlobal.
