I am obsessed with the stock market. I have a voracious appetite for reading. When asked what my favorite hobbies are, research is always at the top. But more importantly, I am fiercely competitive. And my game is trying to outperform the S&P 500 by picking individual stocks. There is an overwhelming amount of data that says most investors will never be able to outperform the S&P 500. I believe this foresight to be true; however, I also believe that I am an outlier. Large companies absorb most of the money in the stock market and thus generate the most attention. Warren Buffett has often stated that the reason he has not been able to beat the S&P 500 in recent decades is that he has too much money to invest. He is forced to buy only large companies because if he invested in small to mid-size companies, it would not affect his overall returns in a meaningful way. He has said he often wishes he could be smaller, so he could find smaller companies with large upside potential. But I am small. And I plan to use that to my advantage. I deeply research small to mid-size stocks with enormous upside that I believe can substantially outperform the S&P 500 over the next several decades.
