Former CBIZ CIO Launches New RIA With an Alts Focus

Financial advisor Anna Rathbun, who stepped down as chief investment officer of CBIZ Investment Advisory Services two months ago, has revealed the details of her new registered investment advisor.

Rathbun has gone live with Grenadilla Advisory, a Cleveland-based RIA that will specialize in creating personalized alternative investment portfolios for clients. She said she’s not bringing clients over from CBIZ, but she has nearly $20 million in assets in the pipeline.

Rathbun served as CIO of CBIZ Investment Advisory Services, the $73 billion wealth management division of accounting firm CBIZ, for five years. Prior to that, she was a managing director at Clearstead, an RIA with about $22 billion in AUM.

The new RIA will specialize in providing personalized portfolios in public and private markets, including private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure. She also plans to use active ETFs that provide public market beta exposure and tax efficiency.

“Over the past few decades, there has been a commoditization of investments in the wealth management space,” Rathbun said in a statement. “I strongly believe that investments should be personalized to each client’s unique needs, which is why I’m starting Grenadilla. Discernment has never been more important in the industry, and Grenadilla will proudly provide clients with institutional-grade advice and offerings.”

Grenadilla was named after the wood used to make high-performance woodwind instruments, such as clarinets and oboes. Rathbun is a classically trained musician with doctoral and master’s degrees in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
