Sam Gallo
Outsourced CIO provider Acansa Investment Management Group LLC has
named Sam Gallo as its chief global strategist. Gallo served as CIO of the University System of Maryland Foundation between 2012 and 2022 and later worked as an adviser to the fund.
At Acansa, Gallo will track global macro trends and will advise the firm’s institutional clients on custom asset allocations and investment strategies, according to a statement from Acansa.
“I wanted to join Acansa because of the team’s unique experience; many of us are former CIOs of large institutions,” Gallo said in a statement. “This kind of team assembly only exists at Acansa, and the value we can provide clients, because of our expertise, is unmatched.”
The firm’s CEO and CIO, Mary Cahill, was previously the CIO of Emory University’s endowment and Xerox’s pension plan.

“Sam is a seasoned and versatile investor who has successfully built, turned around, and grown investment programs for institutions,” Cahill said in a statement. “His hands-on experience and proven track record of performance will be a strong asset to our clients and our firm.”
Before joining the foundation, Gallo was a managing director at PwC, where he developed and led a sub-practice that advised the investment offices of endowments, foundations, pensions and other institutions.
Gallo earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and finance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
