Central bank says 25bp cut was needed to support economy amid weak global outlook

Indonesia’s central bank eased its policy rate by 25 basis points today (July 16) shortly after US president Donald Trump said he had reached a trade deal with the country.
The Bank Indonesia (BI) board said the decision to lower its policy rate to 5.25% was due to its “increasingly lower” inflation forecast and the need for stimulus amid “a weakening global economic outlook”.
The board said its domestic growth forecast remained in the 4.6–5.4% range, while its global growth forecast was likewise
