Policy rate now approaching level “estimated as neutral”, central bank says

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) has unexpectedly cut its policy rate by 25 basis points to 4.5%.
In a statement yesterday (May 8), the bank’s board said the indicators related to expectations of economic activity had “showed a slight deterioration” compared with the previous month. It nevertheless added that most of these indicators had “remained in the optimistic territory”.
Year-on-year headline inflation in April was 1.65%, up from 1.28% the previous month and within the BCRP’s 1–3%
