San Antonio Bank Looking at Converting Vacant Office Tower to Hotel

When Visionworks departed the IBC Centre I tower, the bank had to either find another tenant or do something else with the building. It’s now planning a new hotel in the high-rise. IBC offices are housed in the adjacent IBC Centre II.

IBC Bank wants to convert its downtown office tower at 175 E. Houston St. to a 300-key hotel. The city of San Antonio is reviewing the plans. IBC plans to start construction in the spring of 2026.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports the bank also wants to construct a parking garage adjacent to the building with four levels of amenities on top of it. The room count would put the potential hotel on par with the St. Anthony Hotel, Omni La Mansion Del Rio and The Menger Hotel.

Dallas firm HKS Architects is designing the project. Dimension Hospitality, which operates the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk Downtown, is also on the development team.
