Takeaways From Day 1 of Wealth Management EDGE

The Wealth Management EDGE conference kicked off at The Boca Raton resort in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday with a series of workshops focused on alternative investments, artificial intelligence and high-net-worth clients.

The panels centered around a general theme of growth, whether how to diversify portfolios to grow, strategies to boost AUM and clients and AI best practices to improve an advisors’ business.

In addition, the keynote addresses by former NFL quarterback Alex Smith and CNBC commentator Joe Terranova, dealt with the theme of resiliency, moving forward and dealing with volatility.

“You can’t do this in isolation, you need a team,” said Terranova, senior managing director at Virtus Investment Partners, when asked by WealthManagement.com Executive Editor Diana Britton about who he uses as his advisor to handle tax and estate planning and more. “I have a variety of individuals that I’m constantly in consultation with.”

Smith, who went from a zero-star high school recruit to Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick only to suffer a gruesome leg injury and come back to play again, discussed how he dealt with anxiety, imposter syndrome and the doubts in his about whether he could play well, be successful and even ever come back.
