Jay E. Harker is a lawyer and senior trust company manager with extensive knowledge about trusts and trustees acquired over forty-plus years in the trust business. He has read thousands of trust documents, consulted countless clients and advisors, authored numerous articles for professional publications, and conducted hundreds of educational presentations for attorneys, accountants, trust professionals, financial advisors, bankers, and clients nationwide.
Jay is former Chair of the Probate and Trust Law Steering Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL), former Chair of the Missouri Bar’s Corporate Fiduciaries Subcommittee, and was a contributing author for the Missouri Bar’s desk book Trusts, Powers, Custodianships, & Nonprobate Matters (2d ed. 2006). Jay is currently a member of the Missouri Bar’s Trust & Probate Division, BAMSL’s Probate and Trust Law Section, the Estate Planning Council of St. Louis, the Illinois State Bar Association’s Section on Trusts & Estates, and the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section.
Jay earned his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law, where he was an editor for the St. Louis University Law Journal. He received a B.A. from Ball State University, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. In addition, Jay successfully completed the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) education program through the American Bankers Association, and the CFP® Professional Education Program through the College for Financial Planning (not a currently certified CTFA or CFP®).
